Between the 6th – 8th November Wales’ premier new music Festival Sŵn, curated by BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens and Cardiff-based promoter and Chief Executive of the Welsh Music Foundation, John Rostron, returned to Cardiff for its 9th year with over 120 brilliant acts & bands playing across various venues in the city.

The Abacus was thrilled to be one of these venues as well as hosting the launching party on Friday 6th and a unique exhibition featuring the work of Carl Chapple and an array of photographs and posters from Sŵns back catalogue.

The launching evening saw brilliant performances from AMBER ARCADES | DAN BETTRIDGE | HOUDINI DAX | MY NAME IS IAN (pictured) and WYLDERNESS and welcomed the festivals funders and friends as well as weekend wristband holders for an introduction to the festival and a good old knees up!

The evening was certainly highlighted by Andy and Mika, our prankster door men from CITI bouncers, who took on the challenge of sneakily tying balloons to everyone as they entered the building and collected their weekend wristbands!

Saturday saw a day of music from 2pm-11pm curated by the magnificent Holy Boredom with the likes of SKINNY GIRL DIET | FEWS | OH PEAS! | THEY IS THEY IS THEY IS | BARBEROS (pictured)| PROTOMARTYR | TRAAMS (pictured). Barberos, the double-drummer spandex spectacles, were most definitely one of our highlights!

Barely Reeks of Effort bought Sunday’s line up, including Abacus regulars WALL alongside NUDES | CROWS AN WRA | HUMAN HANDS | WEDDINGS | ARTEFACT | PERSONAL BEST & TRUST FUND giving a perfect end to the festival before all trooped off to the afterparty of course!

Big thanks to all the lovely Abacus volunteers, Sŵn festival, Carl Chapple, the brilliant decor team, the incredible performers and the absolutely marvellous Sŵn team members and volunteers who were happy, helpful diamonds that made it all tick along like clockwork, we had a blast!
